Vote Tally: Jerry Gislcair 5,407 – Micah Hebert 3, 844

It has been my great honor to have been a candidate to represent the unique and beautiful area known as the bayou and though I have lost in my bid I can’t help but feel pride in what I attempted to do, and the manner in which we almost did it. I ran a clean and honest campaign of integrity without compromise and have been deeply humbled by all the genuine support received from so many friends and strangers alike. In the brief three and a half weeks that I was able to campaign after returning from deployment we managed to rattle the establishment a bit with the notion that an earnest man with an honest message can have the power to make big changes for the better if only he’s willing to take a stand, and stand we did. Though I spent less than a fifth of what my opponent did, refrained from predatory phone recordings attacking his character with baseless and bizarre lies, sign vandalism, and other negative campaign tactics, I managed to get 41% of the vote; the intellectual vote and the vote of those who aren’t satisfied with the status quo. Those fortunate enough to call our area’s fertile fields and lazy waterways home have long known that its wealth lies not in deep petroleum deposits but rather in shallow oyster and crab beds, in the warm and hearty people who know themselves as the Cajuns and their unique and shared attitude of approaching each day’s challenge with a strong joie de vivre. The whole campaign was an altogether positive experience and I take pride and solace in the knowledge that 3,844 of you had enough confidence in me to entrust me with your vote in good faith; for this support I am humbled and thankful. Again, thank you all and God bless!

ELECTION DAY!!!

It’s election day! Please be sure to vote if you haven’t already and ask your friends and family about getting out and having their voices heard; polls close at 8 PM. I greatly appreciate the ongoing support from so many of you and hopefully later this evening we’ll be able to say that together we made a move for the positive change that Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes deserve!

Election day is tomorrow!

Please be sure to speak with your family and friends about getting out and voting if they haven’t already. I’ll be at the SL and Central Homecoming game tonight and plan on holding up signs all day tomorrow along with some friends and family; if you have some spare time and want to show some support come out and hold a sign! Louisiana law states that you have to be 600 feet from a polling station on election day to campaign and so I’ll be posting something like 610 feet away from the polling station, on the LA 308 (East) side of the bayou by the SL bridge intersection. This campaign has been a truly positive experience, meeting with and hearing out the good people of District 54 over the past few weeks, and tomorrow I hope that we can make a positive move to better government together!

Election Day is Nearing!

It has been a very productive time these past few weeks with great receptions at the Gheens Community Center, Cut Off Youth Fair and the various other community events I’ve been able to visit and give speeches at. I have been trying to reach out to as many people as possible these past few weeks, going door to door, and am optimistic for election day this coming Saturday the 22. Please check out my updated platform section and help spread my campaign’s message to your friends and family so that come Saturday we can get District 54 the strong and honest representation it deserves.

Televised Debate

To those who tuned in last night for the debate I appreciate your ongoing support as the campaign continues to gain momentum. I apologize for my late appearance but I was arbitrarily pulled over by a state police officer while driving to the debate who informed me that I was going “five or six over” and after explaining my situation to him he had me step out of the vehicle. It was at this point that the officer informed me that he was going to search my vehicle. I protested and asked, “What’s the probable cause?” To which he replied, “Well, we can wait for a warrant but it’ll just be that much longer; up to you.” So to expedite the situation I allowed him to search my vehicle and afterwards he let me on my way without a ticket and thus causing my aforementioned tardiness to the debate; this was the first time I’ve had a vehicle searched. I greatly appreciate the importance of punctuality and am angered at how the whole situation played out; either I am simply very unlucky or otherwise insidious powers are at work. In any case, the election day is coming soon so grab a yard sign and spread the word!

Yard Signs!

If you’d like to have yard signs to show your support and help spread the message about my campaign there are five-hundred of them free for pickup at anytime at 147 East 39th Street in Cut Off. Just to the left of the garage, behind the bushes, there’s a recessed area with boxes of signs and stakes; please help yourself and take as many as you’d like to put up! Tell your family and friends and take some for neighbors as well! Also, if you’d like to host a BIG yard sign or would like to help me put some up this weekend please e-mail me your information and I’ll contact you shortly about coordinating. Thanks for the ongoing support and God bless!

THE BUCK STOPS HERE.

In 2008 the State Legislature voted to increase State Representative’s pay from $16,800 to $37,500 per year. In what other situation is it acceptable to have a public servant dictate their own pay and give themselves a 123% pay raise?!? My opponent, Mr. Gisclair, voted in favor of the pay raise that was eventually vetoed by Governor Jindal. If elected, my first order of business would be to sponsor a bill to reverse the encroaching pay hikes and bring it back down to a grand total of $16,800 vice what a Louisiana State Representative actually  makes, roughly $35,326, when you consider “hidden” perks such as Per Diem, milage, discretionary funds, ect. With the government being in such dire economic straights how can anyone justify such a free ride on the taxpayer’s backs? This should be a service being done with proper motives in place, not to fatten one’s wallet on the public dime. If you agree with my message please share this post and talk to your grandparents, parents, friends, coworkers and everyone else you might know who pays taxes and would rather see their contribution going towards improving our roads and education system than personal coffers.
